Presentation

Adrien Vautrin refuses to supervise the closure of the Alpine factory he manages. With the employees and local stakeholders, he builds a collective takeover. From this first battle emerges a method that takes him from the mayor’s office to Parliament and finally to Matignon. Yet the more he tries to limit the personalisation of power, the more France turns him into the image of a providential leader. Through social crises, budgetary choices, the rise of political extremes and the creation of a European alliance, the novel asks what governing truly means: deciding without knowing everything, accepting the consequences and preparing what must survive the person in power.
